Discovery Parks is a private Canadian trust that designs and builds research facilities for the benefit of the people of British Columbia. Our tenants comprise leading edge technology companies that are in the business of improving the world we live in, most of which have originated from post-secondary academic research.
Situated on three post-secondary campuses and in the City of Burnaby, our buildings are designed to meet the specific and unique requirements of the technology industry. Catering especially to small start-up and post-secondary spin-off companies, Discovery Parks becomes the link between academic research and the marketplace.
To support BC's commercialization and technology transfer activities, Discovery Parks Trust both re-invests and distributes its profits to BC's post-secondary institutions, promoting further research and development within our economy.
Discovery Parks has invested millions of dollars of equity in its research parks. Almost two million square feet of technology space has been developed to date, along with securing commercial mortgages that are off-book to the institutions that are benefiting from such facilities.
At the same time, operating profits are distributed to BC's post-secondary institutions, helping to fuel BC's technology economy, with over $12 million having been paid to these institutions to date.
